Triton Coaches leverage USA Swimmings American Development Model when assessing our athletes.
All Group placement decisions are made by the coaching staff and are in the best interest of the swimmer and their long-term development. Swim assessments are required for all new member inquiries.
The Developmental groups are designed for swimmers ages 5 – 18 years old. They are separated into two levels, which are not required as an order of progression, rather, swimmers are assessed by proficiency of skill progression.
Swimmers who can already get themselves across 25 yards in some fashion. Goals for this group include complete proficiency with streamline position, freestyle and backstroke and a working knowledge of breaststroke and butterfly. Basic drills, starts and turns are introduced as well. This group swims approximately 1000yds per practice, focusing mainly on technique. Practice is offered 3 times per week and children over the age of 6 are encouraged to attend at least 2 practices.
Swimmers who can already show proficiency for freestyle and
backstroke and functional workings of breaststroke and butterfly. Starts move to blocks and concepts of legal turns are encouraged. Enhanced drills are introduced. This group swims approximately 1000-2000yds per practice, focusing mainly on technique. Practice is offered three (3) times per week and children over 6 are encouraged to attend at least two (2) of the practices and to compete in 2-3 USA sanctioned swim meets per season.
Swimmers who move into Age Group are legal in all competitive strokes and turns. Advanced drills are introduced and learned drills are enhanced. Technique, the importance of stroke lengthening count are taught. Equipment is introduced. Concepts of aerobic base, nutrition, plyometric strength are introduced and increasing power are objectives for this group. Swimmers are encouraged to attend 4/5 offered practices per week (approx. 2000-3000 meters/practice) and compete in 3-4 meets per season.

Tailored for athletes who are proficient in all strokes and have identified at least one Primary stroke. Swimmers in this group have moved into longer training sessions and exhibit a maturity level to handle increased length of practices. Have either participated in summer swimming programs, swim jr. high or high school, or have been a member of another Tritons practice group.
B Times are required to enter this group. Ability to modify strokes and utilize advanced starts, turns and tempo technique is expected. Advanced technique, goal setting and team dynamics are goals for this group. Training cycles are introduced and swimmers are placed on Meso. Nutrition & strength are emphasized. Practices are 4000-6000yds. Swimmers are encouraged to attend at least 4/5 practices/wk & compete in 1 meet per mo, as well as any championship meets they have qualified to swim.
Swimmers have advanced through the Tritons program or gained equivalent experience in a USA Swimming or High School program. Accustomed to higher training intensity. Must be 14 by the February Championships. Strong commitment, and understanding that limited effort hinders progress is expected. Technique, race strategy & mental preparation are refined. Athletes expand knowledge of training cycles, nutrition, and strength, applying meso plans daily. Test sets and pace awareness are emphasized.
This group trains 4,000–6,000yds, five times weekly, with consistent attendance expected. Swimmers must compete monthly in at least one sanctioned meet, plus Championship and Senior meets, and achieve an “A” time standard from the Junior Varsity group.
Must have one AAA 13–14 National Time Standard and show commitment to team & individual performance before advancing to Elite. Motivation, accountability & maturity are essential. Athletes must follow coaches’ plans for dryland, weights and attendance (80%+). Focus is on goals, leadership and team representation. Swimmers must attend all designated meets and know training paces and race times. Readiness, strong culture and leadership are expected. Training volume and schedule mirror Varsity.

Practice Hours vary by group during the block of 7-9pm M-F at the Queen Creek Recreation & Aquatics Center.
